Traditionally, Windows-based hosting costs more money than Linux hosting as a result of the licensing fees assessed by Microsoft (Linux is open source and therefore free to use). However, this is less true today. Some companies, like 1&1 and GoDaddy offer hosting packages that cost the about same, regardless of which operating system you choose to run.
WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems (CMS) in the world, and as such, many web hosting providers offer options that cater to this rather large niche. You can certainly host your WordPress site on a standard shared hosting plan, but by choosing a WordPress-specific option, you’ll spend less time configuring and managing your WordPress installation.
Many people mistakenly think that owning their own websites only has to do with owning the names themselves; however, a large part of having a site is hosting the data and information contained on your site.
Rather than renting server space as you do in shared or VPS hosting, dedicated means that one server is allotted for one purpose or site. The benefit of this type of hosting is that your site won’t crash due to external websites spiking suddenly.
Thanks for doing this writeup! While I truly love SiteGround (I use it myself) and recommend it to clients (30+ at the moment) I’ve been looking for solid alternatives because I get nervous about having all my (clients!) eggs in one basket. A2Hosting seems like a very solid alternative. I’d agree with you about InMotionHosting (who I’ve been impressed with) but they don’t offer Let’s Encrypt or similar free signed certificates and that’s a dead-stop dealbreaker for me.
I would definitely recommend a dedicated server + CDN approach as it’ll be far superior, providing the CDN has a local data center. I believe Cloudflare have ones in Sydney and Singapore, which should do the trick.
A premium subscription for WordPress Themes and Plugins is included on the WP-2000s plan and higher. Jump-start your website with beautiful, mobile-ready themes and templates crafted to the latest web design standards. Make your WordPress website easier to manage with user-friendly plugin solutions.
When you reach this point, you can just email your web host and ask them to move you to a more powerful server. There is usually no cost for doing this – you pay the price of the new plan instead.
You’ve got to keep an eye on both of these metrics because they indicate your site’s quality of performance. Uptime refers to the total time that your website is up and running with no problems. Downtime refers to when the time when your website is offline and unavailable to visitors and potential customers.
There is no point in playing pig in a poke and just signing up with any web hosting company regardless of their reputation. The good ones are bound to have a good reputation, and you should be looking for signing up with one of those.
Here we’ve taken a look at the entry level plans for managed WordPress hosting. Of course, as the prices go higher, you get access to 1st class support. That’s actually what you pay for and where the money goes – in fast response times and dedicated assistance. But what would your affordable host of choice be?
I completely agree about WP engine, but not only for larger business. Even if your budget is low, can you afford not to have a lightning fast wordpress website which comes as the result of going with a host who has optimised their servers, caching and everything they do for wordpress? This is only one benefit among others such as security and support which will cost you long term if you dont have them.
