And you are waiting for their response, and “please, be on hold”, and “thank you for your patience “, and “I am still checking” – It takes more then 1 hour just to make them understand where is the problem ! But then they start to convince you that this is ok. How it’s ok ? I still have my old (basic) account which is not expired and where everything works fine !

Curious why my host, WPEngine, is not included. It is certainly a hosting site, but are they a shared hosting site? What is the difference? Were the contenders selected from data that shows the most popular hosting sites?

I feel your pain. As many clients as I can save from them, I will. As many as I can persuade to never go near them the better. Of course they are not entirely without merit. I do enjoy the .99cent domain sales which is pretty handy for scooping up 20 or so domains at a bargain price for testing.:)

The company earned points with its all-SSD infrastructure and 24-7phone support. It also earned points due to the freedom provided to web professionals when setting up servers. However, there is one issue that cost LiquidWeb a top rating: the company does not offer a money-back guarantee.

SiteGround is one of the top-rated hosting companies in the WordPress community. They offer unique in-house performance optimization and security which is why they’re one of the officially recommended WordPress hosting providers.

The C-Panel interface is relatively easy to use, although it’s near impossible to find your name servers – which are not the same for every package you subscribe to. That’s not a problem if your domains are registered with them, but I work with clients who have already registered domains using other services.

Many services offer so-called unlimited or unmetered service for whatever amount of bandwidth, disk storage and sites you use. It’s important to understand that most terms of service actually do limit the definition of “unlimited” to what’s considered reasonable use. The bottom line is simple: if you’re building a pretty basic web site, unlimited means you don’t need to worry. But if you’re trying to do something excessive (or illegal, immoral or fattening), the fine print in the terms of service will trigger, and you’ll either be asked to spend more or go elsewhere.

We like how iPage offers 24-7 telephone support and a 30-day guarantee on top of its ridiculously low price. If you’re on a budget and want to try out Web hosting, we haven’t found a better starting price  than what iPage is offering.

I think it’s misleading that the date on the article is Nov 21, 2016 as if this was just written yet it is actually over two years old. For IT and hosting that is eons and I think you need to do the analysis and tests at least once a year for this to be accurate.

In addition to supporting larger files, the paid plans include tracking controls that show you who has viewed, downloaded, edited and shared your files. You’re notified when a shared file has been received and downloaded, and you can protect your work with access codes. Three collaboration plans are available for businesses needing advanced features.

Automatic backups (done well) – Most web hosting companies offer daily backups, but there’s usually a catch. Either you can only restore the backups (but not download them to your computer), or the backup happens daily instead of after major updates. With WP Engine, you can download or restore backups. Backups are also taken daily AND before and after all major updates (e.g. updating your WordPress version).

If your website receives less than 5,000 visits per month (you can track this using a free web analytics tool like Google Analytics), shared hosting is ideal. When your website starts to grow, however, you might notice that the server is too slow for the amount of traffic you have.

Our comparison displays the regular monthly rates for both one-year personal and business plans after the promotional price has expired. We’ve included this price so you know exactly what you can expect to spend after the first year.

Unlimited is a popular buzzword that many shared hosting services use to describe their bandwidth and storage limitations; however, there actually are limits. Your bandwidth and storage aren’t constrained unless you exceed what the company deems regular use, as defined in its terms of service. However, these limits are usually more clearly defined for higher-end web hosting services, such as cloud, VPS and dedicated hosting.

Whether you opt-in for dedicated or managed hosting, in the end it all depends on your expertise and your personal Basically free, shared and managed hosting all are carefree solutions where you don’t need to deal with the technical stuff. While with a dedicated hosting solution you will have your very own powerful dedicated server which you need to configure and maintain by yourself.

Which features cost extra? As you compare services, you want to know what features you need, and whether they’re included with the plan or if they cost extra, so you can add them into your calculations. For example, if you need a second domain and security services, are they included? Will you need to upgrade to a higher plan or will you need to pay extra annual or monthly fees? Some options that may cost extra include:

iPage have been in the industry now for over 10 years and are part of the EIG family of brands. They tend to focus on the small local business and personal website part of the market with really cheap WordPress hosting starting at $1.99/mth!

But, once the migration is complete and the everything is settled down, there is no denying that EIG run a very tight ship and have excellent infrastructure. The performance testing proves it with all the EIG hosts performing very well. Hosts like Bluehost also offer excellent 24/7 phone and chat support and the vast majority of customers are very happy, so when we see them delivering excellent technical performance and service at a very competitive price we don’t hesitate to recommend them for bloggers and small businesses. And of course we also recommend other cheap shared hosting options like the very excellent Siteground, who is independent and also very very good.

Virtual Dedicated Server: also known as a Virtual Private Server (VPS), divides server resources into virtual servers, where resources can be allocated in a way that does not directly reflect the underlying hardware. VPS will often be allocated resources based on a one server to many VPSs relationship, however virtualisation may be done for a number of reasons, including the ability to move a VPS container between servers. The users may have root access to their own virtual space. Customers are sometimes responsible for patching and maintaining the server (unmanaged server) or the VPS provider may provide server admin tasks for the customer (managed server).

Web hosting can cost anywhere between $2.95 per month to $10,000s. The cost depends on how much storage you need, the performance of the server’s hardware, and level of security. A typical shared web hosting package should cost less than $15 per month.

Hi, if my hosting company does regular backups as part of their service is there a good reason to also use another 3rd party for backups? I’m confused because many people recommend 3rd party services but it seems like most hosts already do this. Any advice would be great.
The amount of traffic your website can handle really depends on the WordPress hosting plan that you’re on. Most shared hosting plans can comfortably handle 1000 to 2000 visitors per day as long as your website is optimized for performance.
Hi Bittu, that would really depend on what you need. If you site is getting some serious traffic and is growing then a VPS might be a good idea, but you can still get away with a shared host if you do a good job of optimizing your site. Use a Caching plugin like WP Rocket in combination with a CDN like MaxCDN and a good shared host will still handle a good amount of traffic. If you are thinking of a VPS then I recommend one of the managed WordPress hosts like WP Engine or one of the A2 VPS plans.
An uptime guarantee is a service level agreement between the hosting company and you, the customer. If the host advertises 99% uptime, for example, it may provide a credit on your account if uptime falls below that.
