This looks to be one of those change the dates on the title posts, but nonetheless, shared hosting today is not like it was the past. There are bigger and badder plugins, IO rates need to be increased, you need more cores, people need to be able to handle driving traffic and not have to worry about downtime. I created a solution to handle a majority of these issues (within reason as some limits need to be imposed) but the typical limits of today are solely driven by the amount of people a host wants to cram on one server. If you design the hosting to work for the people, you won’t have to worry about it working for your pocket.
GlowHost picked up major points for their 91-day money-back guarantee. They were six days short of DreamHost’s 97-day guarantee, but with these numbers, who’s quibbling over a few days? The company also picked up points for their 24/7/365 phone support option and free cPanel offering for most plans. The company operates 18 datacenters worldwide. Finally, the company gains major points by driving all its hosting services with wind power.
For newer WordPress sites, we definitely recommend our high speed Shared Hosting solutions. These solutions are high speed and easy-to-use. They are the perfect springboard to get your site up and running. Once your site grows, or if you have an existing site, you may want to consider one of our Managed VPS plans. Our Managed VPS plans offer the same ease of use as our Shared Hosting, you’ll get more power and support from them. The good news is that at A2 Hosting, our hosting plans are completely scalable and can grow as your site grows. That means you don’t have to worry about outgrowing your solution. We have a full lineup of services that we can seamlessly move your site into.
If you’re a web pro, you’ll like LiquidWeb. LiquidWeb specializes in offering beefy servers to users who know what they need. If you’re just getting started, and want to create a website with just a few pages, LiquidWeb isn’t your best choice. But if you want to set up systems exactly the way you want, either with a VPS, a dedicated server or cloud hosting, LiquidWeb may be your go-to choice.

Whether I’m geeking out with Ryan, Laura, and the team, or sketching out server diagrams to explain the basics to my grandmother, talking about a career in web hosting is always a creative endeavor, and I love it. Hopefully, this guide has cleared up some of the common confusions of hosting services, and you’re ready to sign up with the web host that best fits your upcoming site needs.
We like how iPage offers 24-7 telephone support and a 30-day guarantee on top of its ridiculously low price. If you’re on a budget and want to try out Web hosting, we haven’t found a better starting price than what iPage is offering.
Our system can automatically update your WordPress plugins and themes as new versions become available. Our unique Backup plugin for WordPress can automatically backup your site before updates for safe keeping.
Dedicated is typically the most expensive of the hosting types, so the best dedicated hosts make it worth your while. You can expect 99.999% uptime, market-leading hardware, a redundant network, and ultra-reliable support with InMotion.
In my experience DreamHost is always good because, they keep their hardware and site updated to modern standards and their customer support is fantastic. They offer SSD drives on all plans even on their shared plans which give an added speed boost to your site. Even the best guarantee won’t stop your site going offline – they are giving me 100% uptime even though they have promised 99.9% uptime. However, their web hosting admin panel is custom designed, which is clean and easy-to-use.
One of the best parts about Managed WordPress hosting is the premium support. Your support is provided by real WordPress experts with lots of experience rather than someone who is reading a support manual.
I have been a Bluehost Client over year’s but I left because Bluehost don’t know what is happening with your account, I had 45 account’s with you and also a Reseller account ( that you close). I think that they have so many clients that they don’t seem to care about losing you.
Our custom-built WordPress themes are complete and ready to customize with our drag and drop page editor. Just choose your industry and we’ll give you a ready-made website, complete with relevant images. And if you know your way around WordPress, there are thousands of 3rd-party themes available at wordpress.org and all across the web.
Support might be Arvixe’ archilles heel. The forums are full of complaints in recent months and even Arvixe themselves acknowledged the challenges on their support blog, although that has now been taken down. It seems in the wake of the EIG buyout the transition was a bit wonky with performance and support suffering.

Hi, My wordpress dashboard processes are very slow. It takes several seconds to open a page or navigate through the admin area. This is especially painful when running woo commerce because that’s where most of the shop management happens. I’m looking for a faster host (I’m currently with GoDaddy).
Many web hosting providers, such as GoDaddy & One.com are also domain name registrars so that you can kill two birds with one stone — when you purchase your web hosting package, you can also purchase a domain name.
Hey, our study showed GoDaddy/Hostgator/BlueHost are actually pretty well ranked among average WordPress users https://www.codeinwp.com/blog/2017-wordpress-hosting-survey/ so we couldn’t leave them aside. Thanks for your reading our blog!
Our initial attempt to contact support via chat was less than ideal, with wait times of over 40 minutes reported, so we hit the phones instead. (E.g. when comparing GoDaddy vs. Bluehost, the chat can be accessed much quicker with Bluehost.)
Additionally, many web hosting companies seek to serve as one-stop shops and bundle ancillary services into their plans, providing domain registration, email services, security features and the ability to install applications such as blogs, shopping carts and CMS platforms with a few clicks. Some companies also provide SEO and social media tools or services; others offer prewritten, industry-specific content and images.
Cloud hosting: is a new type of hosting platform that allows customers powerful, scalable and reliable hosting based on clustered load-balanced servers and utility billing. A cloud hosted website may be more reliable than alternatives since other computers in the cloud can compensate when a single piece of hardware goes down. Also, local power disruptions or even natural disasters are less problematic for cloud hosted sites, as cloud hosting is decentralized. Cloud hosting also allows providers to charge users only for resources consumed by the user, rather than a flat fee for the amount the user expects they will use, or a fixed cost upfront hardware investment. Alternatively, the lack of centralization may give users less control on where their data is located which could be a problem for users with data security or privacy concerns.
I had the same opinion, but I have heard they have really turned things around with their hosting. I haven’t tried them in the last 4-5 years but I might give them a shot. Also Bob Parsons (AKA: Elephant Killer) stepped down as CEO, which was a step in the right direction, although he is still the biggest shareholder.
But that’s not all, the support chat is available 24/7. We’ve tested it by asking some domain-related questions regarding the temporary URL of the site. The person on the other end was able to solve those at first try. Really cool.
At this stage, we narrowed our list down to top 10 web hosting companies based on all of the criteria above. Because not all web hosting companies are suitable for everyone, we split our top 10 into two lists:
Media Temple was acquired by Internet giant GoDaddy back in 2013, but continues to operate as a separate unit. Media Temple fits in a hosting space above the many super low-cost consumer hosting providers, ranging all the way up to managed enterprise-level hosting. Essentially, if you want a professional hosting environment and are willing to pay a few more bucks for it, Media Temple is a go-to solution.
For this particular test I sent 50 users to a testing site, increasing from one user to 50 concurrent users, over the span of 10 minutes. 50 concurrent users is a nice baseline test for a shared host. Once you hit that benchmark on a fairly consistent basis, it’s probably time to start exploring VPS and Managed WordPress hosting options. Traffic increases steadily throughout the timeframe until 50 users are visiting the site all at the same time.
Unlike some commenters I appreciate that you included bottom-of-the-barrel hosting like GoDaddy. Both of those, incidentally, really do offer excellent support… though it’s worth noting that of all my clients’ hosting providers GoDaddy’s the only support number I have (or need to have) on speed dial. 🙁 “Know thy enemy” is at least as important as “who’s the best,” so, again, I appreciate you including them in your roundup. Plus, hey, who knows, maybe one of these days GoDaddy, HostGator, etc., will dial back their arbitrary CPU and I/O throttling, add the Let’s Encrypt plugin to their cPanel offerings, upgrade to PHP 7, and otherwise jump back into the middle of the pack or higher.

Thank your for this post. It is just unbelievably FRUSTRATING trying to find information on hosts for WordPress. Currently I’m with Hawk Host, which was recommended to me, but service there is by email only and spotty at best. If WP Engine really delivers on the promised security and expertise, it would be worth paying for.
Aptly named the “Best Host to Grow With,” HostGator is one of the most well-known and well-respected web hosts in the industry. Their plans include user-friendly Weebly site builder, no contract commitment, and unlimited storage, emails, and site traffic. Start with shared hosting and grow your business to dedicated-server scale, and the HostGator team will be there to help you grow every step of the way.

Web hosting services charge a monthly fee for hosting your website and an annual fee to register your domain. Each company offers a variety of plans, and pricing varies greatly, depending on the type of web hosting service you choose. Plan length can also affect price. Although some companies offer month-to-month service, most offer better pricing if you sign a contract.
