WPEngine has been my go-to client website hosting solution for more than three years and I am very satisfied with them. Their support is terrific and their features and developer tools are terrific. They have been extremely reliable.
Even when you’ve chosen a web host you’ll have to choose a plan, so it pays to understand the differentiating factors, and importantly what actually matters and what doesn’t so you can make a fair comparison.
Security: Many sites on one machine means many more ways for bad guys to potentially get at your site. Though most shared hosting providers are pretty rigorous with server-wide security, there is still a risk there so make sure you’re backing up sensibly.
Bottom Line: Boasting excellent uptime and intuitive website-building software, Bluehost makes it easy to create attractive, functional, and stable pages for your business. However, it lacks a few featur…
If you own a business, you need to answer this important question: Does your company have a website? If it doesn’t, it ought to. Naturally, online businesses require websites for marketing and selling products or services by definition, but in the internet age even local brick-and-mortar business need to be discoverable via the web. Word of mouth only gets you so far in this internet-centric age. These days, people discover new businesses—even local business—via Bing, Google, and Yahoo, search engines that make it incredibly simple to find companies’ products, operational hours, and prices. If your business doesn’t appear in the search results, especially on the first page, it’ll be difficult for potential clients and customers to find you. In other words, no website, no money. You do not want that. Of course, web hosting isn’t just for businesses. You may want to host a personal website for many reasons. Either way, the services listed here have you covered.
If you’re a large company and looking for truly enterprise level service, then we recommend using Liquid Web or WP Engine. Both offer outstanding service, but Liquid Web is famous for their heroic support.
I would not recommend WP Engine if: You’re a beginner looking to host a low-traffic / side-project website (it’s probably overkill for that – save your money and use Bluehost instead). Obviously, if you’re not using WordPress this isn’t going to be right for you.
An uptime guarantee is a service level agreement between the hosting company and you, the customer. If the host advertises 99% uptime, for example, it may provide a credit on your account if uptime falls below that.
I think you may consider switching to one of the VPS plans by BGOcloud. Their prices are quite affordable and their services are very reliable. I’ve been using one of their WordPress hosting plans and I can say downtime is kept to minimum. Moreover, my website is way too faster than it used to be, due to their SSD storage.
Diskspace: If you are starting a new blog or planning to run a simple website this is unlikely to be a major factor. You’ll only really need to think about this if you are running a very large site, uploading lots of media files or running an app that stores more and more data over time.
Host1Plus offers very reasonably-priced hosting plans with many options for scaling up as your business grows. WordPress hosting is for people who want to build their sites on the back of the popular WordPress content management system (CMS). Many WordPress hosts automatically handle backend stuff, so you don’t have to worry about updating the apps and CMS, and enabling automatic backups.

You also want a web host with 24/7 customer support—if not by phone, then at least by chat. Forums, knowledge bases, and help tickets are all well and good, but sometimes you just need to communicate with another human to get things ironed out as quickly as possible. That said, not all 24/7 customer support teams are equal. Companies like GoDaddy and Liquid Web boast incredibly knowledgeable and helpful customer support squads—a fact that we confirmed in our in-depth reviews of those web hosting services.

Hi Sarah, good question. I’m glad you see the importance of implementing your ecommerce site as https, I’m actually of the opinion that all sites, even regular blogs without any commerce, should go all in on https these days. The good news is that you can indeed get a security certificate on one of the cheaper shared hosting plans. Both Siteground and A2 Hosting (details here) support the free shared security certificates from Let’s Encrypt. They are super easy to install from the hosting control panel and are automatically renewed so maintenance is very simple. Of course all the more expensive managed VPS hosting packages also support Let’s Encrypt too so if you wanted to invest in a plan that will grow with you then you’re covered there too.
Most web hosting companies do offer email, allowing you to have an email address that uses your domain name, either as an optional add-on or as a part of a hosting package. There are a few web hosting companies that do not offer this, so it’s important to check this before purchasing a hosting plan.
