Because we offer what is known as a shared architecture, our customers share both the hardware and the “pipes” we use to transmit data across the web, so we do monitor bandwidth to ensure optimum performance for our customers. Again, we are able to support more than 99.5% of customers with no issues at all. However, in some wonderful cases, customers become so successful that their traffic and data transfer outgrow our shared architecture. When that happens, we work with the customer to identify scalable solutions, such as our Virtual Private Servers.
At the very bottom of their home page is a link called “show fineprints.” Clicking it expands out a list of details on the restrictions and renewal pricing for many of their promotions. We liked that this level of detail was easily available to consumers.
Installation of WordPress on A2 is automatic and customized with A2’s own plugin which automatically installs and configures some popular plugins to optimize the performance of your site. For the purposes of our testing however we’ve installed the same stock installation of the WordPress across all the hosts to ensure that we are doing an apples to apples comparison.

Arvixe’ performance in the October 2017 load tests was again very solid. The load times for each virtual user session started out well and remained consistent as the number of concurrent users increased. This suggests that they are employing some smart network caching technology to quickly serve regularly requested resources. It is great to see this kind of performance on an entry level shared plan.
Of course the other ranking factor that everyone is talking about these days is speed so I wouldn’t go with a host on the other side of the world if you can help it. The best WordPress hosts these days will give you a choice of server locations so choose the one closest. On top of this you can also implement a good caching plugin and or a CDN.
Virtual Dedicated Server: also known as a Virtual Private Server (VPS), divides server resources into virtual servers, where resources can be allocated in a way that does not directly reflect the underlying hardware. VPS will often be allocated resources based on a one server to many VPSs relationship, however virtualisation may be done for a number of reasons, including the ability to move a VPS container between servers. The users may have root access to their own virtual space. Customers are sometimes responsible for patching and maintaining the server (unmanaged server) or the VPS provider may provide server admin tasks for the customer (managed server).
I am a very upbeat person in general. I don’t like negativity, and I won’t put negative opinions on this website. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t seen a lot of poor service from various web hosts. On the contrary, I saw a lot! You just won’t find those web hosts here.
Managed WordPress hosting is great for established bloggers who can justify the expense with their revenue. It is for people who do not have the skills/time to deal with the technical side of things. We recommend WPEngine for managed WordPress hosting.
Rounding out the wins, InMotion offers a full 90-day money-back guarantee. On top of that, here’s a special money-saving hint. In a chat session confirming pricing and offerings, the operator offered me some special prices and deals that reduced the published price by a few bucks. I was also told that while promotional pricing does go up at the end the offer period, if you contact customer service, InMotion has a “loyal customer discount” that may bring the price back down.
When you reach this point, you can just email your web host and ask them to move you to a more powerful server. There is usually no cost for doing this – you just pay the price of the new plan instead.
MediaTemple Grid Server is a bit pricier at $20 per month than the other hosts featured in this post, but technically it’s still considered a shared host which is why we included it. While not boasting the fastest load times, aside from a strange hiccup at the very beginning of the test, MediaTemple was rock solid all the way to scale. Variances were 2-300 milliseconds but load times generally stayed at almost exactly 1 second, regardless of the number of users.
Bluehost’s performance was lackluster. As traffic increased so did response time, almost following the same steep climb. Even at lower user counts the response time jumped around quite a bit, ranging anywhere from 1 to 3.5 seconds with only 10 active users. As Bluehost approached the 20 user mark load times skyrocketed to over 10 seconds. They did come back down, but performance was still highly inconsistent with huge variances from one second to the next.
« Over 3 million domains rely on HostGator, shouldn’t you? No extra costs, no overage fees, unlimited disk space and bandwidth on all shared web hosting plans from just $4.95/mth. True 99.9% uptime with in-house support makes a winning combination for your website’s needs.
If your site is a huge success then you will ultimately want to get your own dedicated server (though for 98% of all business sites and blogs a shared server or VPS is more than enough). This means you’ll have your own physical server hosted in the providers location, dedicated to just you. There are of course many levels of server you can lease, from smaller cheaper servers right up to very powerful servers with a huge amount of processing power. The important difference from shared and VPS type offerings is that you will have complete control over your WordPress hosting environment. If you get to this level you probably have your own system administration resource, though most dedicated server providers can also provide a managed solution (which of course costs more).
