If you check a review for any hosting company, you will see ratings all over the place. That’s because people with a negative experience are ten times more likely to write a review than people who are satisfied with what they have bought.

Besides choosing the type of web hosting you need, you’ll also need to decide whether you want your website hosted on a Windows-based system or a Linux-based system. In some cases, the needs of your website dictate the operating system you choose. If not, read on for an overview of the similarities and differences between the two options.

No. You can purchase your domain from a provider like GoDaddy and use one of the WordPress hosting providers listed above. However if you don’t have a domain already, then it’s easier to use the same provider (specially if its free).

Three is the standard number of hosting plans offered under a company’s shared hosting umbrella, which gives you three different options to grow if you’re unsure about initially investing in a higher-priced plan.

MySQL is most commonly used for web and embedded applications and has become a popular alternative to proprietary database systems due to its speed and reliability. iPage provides customers with MySQL database and phpMyAdmin interfaces.

Web hosting is a service that allows organizations and individuals to post a website or web page onto the Internet. A web host, or web hosting service provider, is a business that provides the technologies and services needed for the website or webpage to be viewed in the Internet. Websites are hosted, or stored, on special computers called servers.

This month, October 2017, GoDaddy’s Load Impact test average was down from the previous period to 1.11s, but as you can see in the chart above they do exhibit a fairly linear relationship between the number of virtual concurrent users and the VU load time. By the time the test ran all the way to 100 concurrent users the average user load time had increased to c.2.4 seconds which is not awful, but is on the slower end of the spectrum compared to the best WordPress hosts.

I would recommend WP Engine if: You have a WordPress site (or collection of sites) that receive decent traffic (more than 10,000 visits / month) and that you critically need to keep online and not get hacked.

Web hosting servers can be attacked by malicious users in different ways, including uploading malware or malicious code onto a hosted website. These attacks may be done for different reasons, including stealing credit card data, launching a Distributed Denial of Service Attack (DDoS) or spamming.[14]

Hi Tim, we are often asked if you can run WordPress on a Windows hosting and you can, but I would definitely recommend going with a Linux server as it will be easier all round. In my experience you will end up jumping through hoops to get WordPress running smoothly on a Windows server. If you are going with a standard shared hosting plan I’d also opt for one that comes with Cpanel and one of the popular installer applications. All the companies reviewed here offer this set up and it makes it super easier to get WordPress installed and up and running. Hope that helps.

All of the web hosts in our top ten go above and beyond with 24/7 support, short hold times, and genuinely helpful technical support. In particular, we found WP Engine and InMotion to have the best and most responsive technical support.

Thank your for this post. It is just unbelievably FRUSTRATING trying to find information on hosts for WordPress. Currently I’m with Hawk Host, which was recommended to me, but service there is by email only and spotty at best. If WP Engine really delivers on the promised security and expertise, it would be worth paying for.

VPS hosting is similar to shared hosting in that multiple sites share the same server, but the similarities end there. A dedicated web host houses less sites per server than shared hosting, and each site has its own individual resources.

Multacom is another pro-oriented service provider. As you can see, they’re upfront with their offering of a full rack that’s rentable in their facility. You can also rent half a rack, a quarter of a cabinet, or even co-locate just one server in their facility. They provide a full 20 amps of power to each cabinet, initial setup, and free IPKVM and remote reboot on request.

The dedicated/managed WordPress hosts like WP Engine also offer this kind of functionality. They typically don’t use CPanel which is the standard hosting control panel offered by just about all shared hosts. Instead they normally have their own custom WordPress hosting panel with these kinds of backup and restore features baked in.

Hi Cecilia, I’ve not been a fan of GoDaddy in the past, though in fairness this has been more to do with their aggressive approach to upsells rather than any particular issue with the performance of their hosting. Recently GoDaddy has been investing heavily in the WordPress ecosystem (buying ManageWP for example), and the services they offer to WordPress users. For this reason I’m adding GoDaddy to the next round of testing which I am preparing for now. It’s also true that GoDaddy is one of the largest providers of shared hosting, and much of it is WordPress sites so they absolutely deserve consideration. And if you are already using them for domain registration then there is some sense in keeping it all under one roof. Come back in the next month or so and I should have completed my updated performance testing which will include GoDaddy so you can see how they stack up compared to the others.

Limits – Because the server architecture is specialized for WordPress, often you are limited to run only WordPress based sites. But that’s what you were looking to do anyways. You also cannot run all WordPress plugins. Managed WordPress hosting providers block plugins that slows down your site. So this is not entirely a disadvantage, but it can be an issue for larger companies.

The plans we’ll be testing in our roundup are all managed, but it’s still useful to have an idea of the different options available to you. We’ll quickly run over the main pros and cons of each alternative before getting down to business.

It may be clear that A2 Hosting is your top choice for WordPress Hosting, but you may still have questions. You can find answers to many of your WordPress Hosting questions below. Of course you can also ask our 24/7/365 Guru Crew Support team. They’re standing by and ready to help!

Alternatively, I could go with one of the Low Cost Hosts you’ve reviewed, but take out some sort of 3rd Party WP Annual Support Contract, which might mean I could save even more time, by being able to call on assistance – not only with Hosting Issues – but also for other WP Challenges not directly related to Hosting.
