The WordPress plugin repository provides additional features that can enhance WordPress functionality. Most WordPress websites have at least a few plugins, and some have dozens that users can enable or disable as they wish.
Please keep in mind that in a few cases, we have had to work with customers to reduce the number of files they are using. Typically, these file counts are in the tens of thousands, and we’ve been able to help our customers manage them effectively.
In particular, Web Hosting Hub uses BoldGrid as a site builder. BoldGrid is actually an add-on to WordPress, so there’s no lock-in. This overcomes the major problem of most site builders: you’re locked into that host and that tool, often requiring you to completely rebuild your site if you want to expand. By using a WordPress-based solution, all of the rather considerable power of WordPress is available for future expansion.
WordPress hosting can be a complicated thing, and we understand that. There’s a lot of components that make up a good hosting setup for your site, and potentially a lot of things that can be problematic or confusing.
Most web hosting companies do include a free domain name when you sign up for a web hosting plan, but often only for a limited amount of time or when you purchase a certain plan. If a domain name is not included, you can still purchase it separately and use it with your chosen web hosting company.
I hope this evaluation has been useful to you. If you have experience with WP Engine, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below – otherwise, if you want to get started with them you can do so by going to https://wpengine.com.
People use websites for all kinds of things, and exactly what you want to do will dictate what kind of web hosting you need. In addition to the types of web hosting we covered in the previous section, which can generally be used for many different types of websites, there are specialty options that cater to a specific subset of users. We will cover these options below.
I usually bring my clients to WP Engine for hosting, but now that I have used GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress hosting with its great UI and one-click migration, I’ll be bringing my clients to GoDaddy for a fraction of the annual fee.
Sounds good? Not so fast. The devil is in the details, and the details can be found in the hosting provider’s terms of service (TOS). Luckily for all of us, pretty much every TOS says the same thing: you can’t abuse their servers.
Their average home page load time also improved in Octover, but they scored a 99.86% uptime in the last 30 days which which is lower than promised and lower than we consider acceptable for a top ranking web host.

Generally speaking, such plans come with WordPress already installed in your environment, regular updates to your WordPress core and extras, such as free themes, better performance and specialist plugins.
Great for individuals and small businesses, HostGator offers speedy cloud hosting at extremely affordable prices. They use this same cloud architecture to power their optimized WordPress plans as well.
If you can’t be bothered, just check out the four hosts featured in the tables below. Those are the main companies that we recommend to 95% of our users/customers. In a nutshell, those are the best WordPress hosting companies in the market.
Once you find a theme you like, you will want to click on the selected theme and click the Install button. Once installed, navigate back to the Appearance menu, select the newly installed theme and select Activate.

A2 Optimized Wordress also auto-hardens your site with a number of security features, like automatic WordPress updates and providing you with a unque login URL, all in an effort to keep your site secure from before contacting us: Please don’t send us legal takedown orders or threats, we don’t actually host every WordPress blog in the world. If you don’t understand that, you probably shouldn’t be sending legal notices anyway.
For this initial run, I compared several shared WordPress hosting companies. I plan to continue to add to this list and update it in 2016 as well so that people have a goto resource for choosing the best WordPress hosting company. Here are the hosts I’ve tested in no particular order:
I completely agree about WP engine, but not only for larger business. Even if your budget is low, can you afford not to have a lightning fast wordpress website which comes as the result of going with a host who has optimised their servers, caching and everything they do for wordpress? This is only one benefit among others such as security and support which will cost you long term if you dont have them.
All of the web hosts in our top ten go above and beyond with 24/7 support, short hold times, and genuinely helpful technical support. In particular, we found WP Engine and InMotion to have the best and most responsive technical support.
If your business is small or new, a shared web hosting plan is the best place to start. However, if you’ve outgrown your current host, your website is complex, or you want advanced customization options, VPS or cloud hosting may be a better fit. If you have multiple websites, you may prefer a domain host. Or, if you simply need a service that makes it easy to share large files, an FTP hosting company may meet your needs.
People often think that a web host is the main cause of a slow website but, this is often not the case. When picking a provider, it’s important for find a hosting provider that is close to your users and has a good amount of RAM and fast CPU power. Beyond that, it’s often the way the website is set up that slows it down for users. To ensure that your website speed is optimal for users you need to make sure you pay attention to the following:
Should I optimistically start with VPS rather than shared? How easy is it to upgrade? And do you have to see out your contract on shared before you can upgrade to VPS- provided it is with the same host does it matter?
Hi Sarah, good question. I’m glad you see the importance of implementing your ecommerce site as https, I’m actually of the opinion that all sites, even regular blogs without any commerce, should go all in on https these days. The good news is that you can indeed get a security certificate on one of the cheaper shared hosting plans. Both Siteground and A2 Hosting (details here) support the free shared security certificates from Let’s Encrypt. They are super easy to install from the hosting control panel and are automatically renewed so maintenance is very simple. Of course all the more expensive managed VPS hosting packages also support Let’s Encrypt too so if you wanted to invest in a plan that will grow with you then you’re covered there too.
I would not recommend WP Engine if: You’re a beginner looking to host a low-traffic / side-project website (it’s probably overkill for that – save your money and use Bluehost instead). Obviously, if you’re not using WordPress this isn’t going to be right for you.
If you’ve ever been worried about the tremendous amount of power large data centers consume, you might want to sign up with Green Geeks. The “green” in the company’s name reflects the Green Geeks’ commitment to the environment. It purchases three times the energy it actually uses in wind energy credits, essentially putting energy back into the economy. The company does this through a form of renewable energy certificates, which, while a bit complicated, means that it’s not just energy neutral, i’s actually helping fuel the green energy economy.
WordPress.org is a self-hosted version, for which you will need hosting, and hosting is where you data is stored. WordPress.com is hosted version, which doesn’t require hosting or anything, because that part is managed by them.
